Procedural Generation
One of the most important features of Starfall Alliance is the procedural generation of star systems. Every system you visit is generated algorithmically, but consistently.
How It Works
We use a seed system — each system has a unique seed that determines everything about it:
- Central star: type (dwarf, giant, neutron), color and size
- Planets: count, types (rocky, gas, ice), orbits
- Asteroids: density, types and positions
- Station: location in the system
- Enemies: types present and starting patrols
Why Seeds?
The big advantage of seeds is consistency. If two players visit the system with seed ABC123, both will see exactly the same layout. That lets us:
- Share discoveries (“Found an amazing system at seed X!”)
- Guarantee the universe is consistent for everyone
- Validate actions on the server (anti-cheat)
System Size
Each system is 9x the size of the screen. That gives enough room to explore without being overwhelming. The camera follows the player’s ship, and the minimap helps with navigation.
Next Steps
We’re working on danger that varies by region — systems closer to the center will be safer, while the frontier will be dangerous.
