Android Build
Starfall Alliance is developed as a web game first, but with Android as the main launch platform. We use Capacitor to package the game as a native app.
Why Capacitor?
Capacitor lets web games run as native apps without rewriting code:
- Access to native Android APIs
- Near-native performance
- A single codebase for web and mobile
- Updates over the web (without going through the Play Store every time)
Mobile Optimizations
We made several optimizations to ensure good performance on phones:
Performance
- A 60 FPS target on mid-range devices
- Optimized sprites and texture atlases
- Object pooling to avoid garbage collection
Mobile UX
- Controls adapted for one-handed play
- Touch areas that respect safe zones
- Haptic feedback on important actions
- Immersive mode (fullscreen without system bars)
Power
- Auto-pause when the app goes to the background
- Reduced processing while in menus
Immersive Mode
On Android, the game runs in full immersive mode:
- No status bar
- No navigation bar
- The whole screen dedicated to the game
Current Status
The Android build is in active development. We’re:
- Testing on a range of devices
- Optimizing battery use
- Preparing assets for different screen densities
- Setting up a CI/CD pipeline for builds
Next Steps
- Publishing on the Play Store (soon)
- Beta tests with selected players
- Push notifications for global events
