These have been busy days since the last devlog. Starfall: Incursion gained an act, two cores, a whole new fleet and a destination: Steam, in Early Access.
Three Vytar cores
Before each incursion, you now choose your Vytar’s core. The ship, its name and its voice stay the same, but the starting deck, the starting artifact and the cards you find change.
- Solar: Burn that eats away and Heat that builds up until it explodes.
- Cryogenic (level 3): Chill that builds up until the enemy freezes and loses its turn.
- Symbiote (level 6): Spores that keep hurting, cards that grow and a ship that regenerates.
Each core has 57 cards of its own, over 170 in total. Details in Vytar Cores.
The simulator and the first playtests showed the Cryogenic core weaker than the other two. Enemies now freeze with less Chill (6 for common enemies, 12 for Sentinels and 20 for bosses), and the Cryogenic Core applies 3 Chill to every enemy.
Act 3 — Dead Zone
After the Frontier, the incursion enters the Dead Zone: black light, geometry that doesn’t close and 13 new enemies. At the end waits the Herald, the big brother of the Lesser Herald. Whoever defeats it can keep descending into the Depths.
A new fleet
All 46 enemy ships were redrawn from new concepts, to a single standard: chunky pixels, seen from the front, always ships shaped like creatures, where the cockpit is the eye. Every Vexro carries a touch of red. Ten of them, and the player ship, were drawn pixel by pixel.
Endgame and community
- Daily Boss: an exclusive boss, the same kit for everyone and a leaderboard for the fewest turns.
- Capital Ships: a world boss where every pilot’s damage adds up. The rewards are cosmetic only.
- The living ship: name your Vytar in the Hangar. It talks during the incursion: proud at first, scared when Corruption rises.
- A new interface on every screen and a composed soundtrack for the menu, battle and Corruption.
- Ranked modes from level 5: the Daily, Weekly and Daily Boss unlock at level 5. Until then, normal incursions teach the game and give the XP to get there.
The next step: Steam
Starfall: Incursion is going to Steam in Early Access. The plan, in order:
- A “Coming soon” page on Steam, so you can add the game to your wishlist.
- A desktop version, with offline saves and Steam Cloud.
- Controller and Steam Deck support.
- The free demo release (Act 1).
- The Early Access launch.
The roadmap now lists these steps.
Good flight, pilot. The Dead Zone is getting closer.
